Bicester Rural neighbourhood update

   (September 2008)

The following is an edited extract from the Thames Valley update document

Update from police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Louise Penfold

PCSOs attended the Fairport Festival at Cropredy between the 7 and 9 August, where our role included liaising with the community and aiding the stewards with traffic duty, where we controlled over ten thousand cars into the event, which helped to keep the main roads and the M40 clear.

On 18 August we attended the Ambrosden Community Hall, where a group of children had the opportunity to have their finger prints taken and were able to keep them and put them up on the wall of their community hall. They all enjoyed getting their fingers covered in black ink.

PCSOs were also on traffic duty at the Stratton Audley family fun ride on 31 August. The bike ride took cyclists through Poundon, Marsh Gibbon and back to Stratton Audley. We were asked by the village's parish councillor to assist with traffic management for the event and to judge the best dressed cyclist and the best face painted cyclist.

Over the summer holidays we have been checking the schools to make sure they are all secure. The village halls are being checked as well because of recent incidents of criminal damage.

On Tuesdays we have attended the coffee mornings at the Red Lion public house in Stratton Audley and liaise with residents of the village and the neighbouring villages who also attend.

We are still focusing our patrols on churches after the recent thefts of lead and you may have seen us having our lunches in the church grounds.
