The following is an edited extract from the Thames Valley update document
Update from neighbourhood specialist officer PC Caroline Brown
We have been very active this month and have achieved a lot.
As a result of the last Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) meeting, it was identified that vehicles are jumping the traffic lights at Middleton Stoney and in particular late on Friday afternoons. We visited the location and observed three drivers jump the lights in the space of half an hour and paperwork is being submitted to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Also, there was a complaint from Chesterton of drivers using mobile phones whilst driving. Again we attended and observed one driver doing just this as well as three drivers not wearing seat belts. Again this is being followed up with prosecutions pending.
We conducted a joint operation with Roads Policing at Station Road, Lower Heyford, one morning with the speed gun where five tickets were issued and one person was reported for speeding. What was interesting was that five of the drivers were from surrounding villages and the other a delivery driver.
Several vehicles were stopped for speeding through Middleton Stoney and warnings given to them. The SID (speed indicator device) is now back and working and we are planning to be out and about in various villages with this in the following weeks.
I have attended parish council meetings in Wendlebury and Stratton Audley during October and gave a précis of crime figures for these villages for the last year.
The PCSOs attended Fringford School where they carried out a cycling proficiency course with ten students, all of who were successful in passing the course - a photo showing them with their certificates was printed in the Bicester Advertiser!
We have continued high-visibility patrols on village churches following theft of lead from a few locations, and also have been out delivering a Neighbourhood watch letter to all co-ordinators in the villages.
We are missing PC Sullivan following a recent accident off duty that resulted in him fracturing his heel, he may be off work for some time and we wish him a speedy recovery.
